Keynote :"5G Satcom: noise or interference limited?"

Prof. Ana Perez-Neira
CTTC, Barcelona
Abstract: Mobile radio communication systems have to cope with increase data traffic at reduced latencies and improved user experience, together with major reduction in energy usage. In addition future systems should embody connections to billions of objects. But what is the place of satellite for such a vision? This talk examines several potential roles for next generation satellite systems: increase ubiquity, narrow the gap between 4G and 5G in lower connected areas, traffic offloading, content delivery networks,... Special focus is given to those situations where interference begins to play a more important concern than noise because of the use of high throughput satellites and/or hybrid terrestrial/satellite systems are examples of it. In this respect, the talk reviews most recent signal processing techniques to cope with interference such as: multiuser decoding and precoding.
